Year 8 trip to Hampton Court Palace

On Tuesday, 9th July the department was pleased to lead a trip which saw all of our Year 8s visit Hampton Court Palace as part of the school’s ‘Above and Beyond’ month. Here, students experienced a range of interesting activities. First, they visited the kitchens which would have assembled the great banquets held in the Tudor era.

Later students visited the Tudor apartments themselves - home to the Great Hall, and the corridors leading to Henry VIII’s chapel. Famously, it is thought Henry’s fourth wife Katherine Howard is said to haunt one of these passages where she pleaded with her husband to spare her life. Thankfully no students reported seeing an apparition.

The day also included attempting to conquer the oldest surviving hedge maze in England, commissioned by William III.
