VLT Maths Challenge 2023

On October 18th 2023, Ruislip High School played host to the eagerly anticipated third Vanguard Learning Trust Maths Challenge. Schools participating included Field End Primary School, Hermitage Primary School, Oak Farm Primary School, Ryefield Primary School, Vyners School and Ruislip High.

The Maths Challenge was comprised of five diverse rounds, each designed to test the participants' mathematical mettle. These rounds included a variety of engaging topics, including the renowned "24 game". Here, contestants are presented with four individual numbers and are tasked with combining them, using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to craft the elusive double-digit number 24.

The subsequent rounds tested the students' skills in Financial Mathematics, UKMT questions, problem solving and concluded with a round inspired by the popular TV show, "The 1% Club".

Hermitage Primary School emerged as the champions, becoming the first primary school to secure the coveted gold medal. Ruislip High School secured the silver medal and the podium was completed by Field End Junior School, who took home the bronze.

Mr Joshi who joined Ruislip High in September 2023 had this to say about the event: “It was a privilege to be a part of the team alongside Mr Ladhani, as well as the Year 11 and Sixth Form helpers to deliver another successful, and my first, VLT Maths Challenge. It was a pleasure to see the levels of engagement and excitement on the students' faces as they tackled challenging maths problems. A huge congratulations to all the Trust school students and staff for taking part, and a special shout out to Hermitage for being the first Primary school to receive the coveted trophy! I am already looking forward to the VLT Maths Challenge 2024!”
