RHS Summer School 2024

On Thursday 29th August, 2024, Ruislip High School warmly welcomed its incoming Year 7 students at our annual Summer School. The two days were engaging and action-packed and designed to ease the transition into secondary school for the students in attendance. There was a rich mix of educational and fun activities, which allowed students to bond with their peers and familiarise themselves with their new school environment.

The Summer School had a range of exciting activities, including a creative session where students designed their own family crests. This activity encouraged them to think about their personal values, family histories, and unique traits, then turning these ideas into vibrant and meaningful symbols.

In addition to exploring their artistic sides, the students sharpened their minds with a series of maths problem-solving challenges. Working in teams, they tackled puzzles and complex equations, developing both their mathematical skills and their ability to collaborate effectively.

The two days also emphasised cultural learning through a series of quizzes that tested the students' knowledge of different traditions, histories, and global cultures. This activity not only broadened their horizons, but also celebrated the diversity within the group, encouraging inclusivity and mutual respect.

Finally, what better way to help the students to familiarise themselves at Ruislip High School than with a fun-filled scavenger hunt around the school grounds. Students had to work together to solve clues and find hidden items, giving them an opportunity to explore the school, while building teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Mr Noble, Deputy Headteacher, said: "It was such a pleasure to see so many of our new Year 7 students at our summer school. The students’ behaviour was exemplary and their positive engagement in lessons created a fantastic atmosphere all around the school. I know it was very useful for the students to have the building to themselves for two days, allowing them to orient themselves and make the best possible start for their new adventure at Ruislip High School."

The summer school was a great success, leaving the new Year 7 students feeling excited and prepared for the start of the academic year. Parents shared their positive feedback, stating that the days were incredibly valuable for helping their children to feel more comfortable, as they embark on this new chapter of their educational journey.
