RHS students win the Hillingdon & Ealing Junior Chess Championship
We are delighted to announce that on Saturday 13th July, 2024, one of our Year 7 students triumphed in the London Borough of Hillingdon & Ealing Junior Chess Championship U14s tournament. Competing against several students, each player participated in six intense games, with breaks to rest and play tennis between rounds.
Our school emerged victorious with the highest overall points, thanks to the impressive performances of Mekyle, Rian, and Hamza. Mekyle secured 3 points, Rian earned 2 points, and Hamza contributed 1 point. This outstanding achievement led to our school receiving the championship shield.
This achievement was recognised by Mr Davies, Headteacher, who awarded the first place winner, Mekyle, with the shield, during the Year 7 Celebration assembly. Mekyle expressed his pride, saying, "I feel that the competition went really well, and I am proud that our school is the best."
This is a proud moment for our school community, showcasing our students' dedication and skill. Congratulations to our chess players. If your child is interested in trying chess and signing up to our weekly Chess Club, please get in touch with our Above & Beyond Coordinators, Ms Cimino and Ms Cluskey, who would be more than happy to help you sign your child up to Chess Club.
