VLT Equality Week 2025
From Monday 3rd March, 2025, students at our school had the chance to get involved in Equality Week. This annual week focuses on celebrating the diverse cultures, backgrounds and identities of our school community.
At Ruislip High School, the week saw students taking part in a range of activities and talks relevant to the week. Year 7s took part in a Gamelan music workshop, led by the music department, whilst Year 8 students took part in an Indian classical dance workshop run by the SBDC dance company. The workshop began by teaching all students basic skills and built up to groups learning a complete dance routine by the end of the session.
One of the highlights of the week took place on Wednesday 5th March: ‘Cultural Day’. On this day, staff and students dressed up in their cultural clothes, if they so wished. It was wonderful to see students wearing clothing representing their cultural heritage with pride and celebrating their heritage with others from different cultures and backgrounds across the school.
Finally, throughout the week students took part in tutorials linked to the theme of equality in society. For example, Sixth Form students considered the power of language and how we should all aim to use language that is inclusive of everyone - and not use language to single people out or identify them based solely on one characteristic.
Thank you to all of our staff and students for getting involved in the week and remembering that at RHS we celebrate and respect our differences, whilst remaining stronger together as a school community.
