Brilliant Club Scholars' Graduate at Kings' College, London
On Thursday 6th July 2023, a group of Year 12 students attended their graduation event for taking part in the Brilliant Club’s Scholars’ Programme, at King’s College London.
The students have been working closely with a PhD Tutor, Ms Maryam Najafabadi, who is studying to gain a PhD in mechanical engineering. Over the course of two months, students have participated in a series of small group, university-style tutorials on a ‘super-curricular’ course on 3D printing. They completed final research assignments that have challenged them to work at undergraduate level. By participating in this programme, students will stand out from the crowd when applying to competitive apprenticeships and universities.
The Graduation Event was a fantastic way for students to celebrate their success on the programme. Our students were able to hear about the exciting research projects other schools completed, and reflect on the skills gained from the Brilliant Club programme.
Finally, the Year 12 students were given a tour of King’s College London’s ‘Guy’s Campus’, which houses their medicine, dentistry and life sciences schools. With many students on the programme keen to pursue sport, physiotherapy and science degrees, it was a great chance for them to see the state-of-the-art facilities housed in historic buildings on the campus.
Ms Kwan, who led the Brilliant Club Programme in the Sixth Form told us: “I’m really proud of the hard work the students put into completing their 2500 word research assignment, as they juggled their Y12 examinations and other commitments. It was wonderful to see them celebrate their success together today at their graduation.”
