BIMA Digital Day 2024
On Wednesday 13th November, the Year 10 GCSE Computer Science students took part in the annual BIMA Digital Day. This challenge focuses on creating a digital campaign or product that enhances inclusivity, sustainability and accessibility in fashion.
Divided into teams, students brainstormed creative ideas, collaborated on designs, and presented their concepts to the TPXimpact mentors, who provided guidance and support throughout the day.
The event concluded with student teams presenting their projects to their peers and TPXimpact representatives. The creativity, teamwork, and technical aptitude on display by the students was fantastic, with feedback encouraging students to further explore their ideas and develop their skills. The students rose to the occasion with innovative ideas that showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills. One group, tackling ‘The Microsoft Challenge’, proposed a range of ideas that brought together the best of all solutions on one single platform - from AI generated question banks to targeted questioning. The winners of this challenge were: Tasbeeha, Zachary, Iza and Monica.
Another team, focused on ‘The Burberry Challenge’ conceptualised ways to make the most impact on young people buying trench coats, whilst being sustainable at the same time. The TPXimpact mentors were highly impressed by the students’ ability to think critically and creatively about complex issues, praising their potential as future leaders in the digital and creative sectors. The winners in this challenge were Dathusan, Devon, Daniel and Lorcan.
Throughout the day, TPXimpact representatives also shared their experiences of working in the digital industry, giving insights into career paths in UX design; software development; and digital marketing. They emphasised the importance of skills like teamwork, communication, and adaptability in the ever-changing tech landscape.
Lorcan, Year 10, said: “I enjoyed doing something different during the day. It was great speaking to Kirk and Tasos who shared their industry experience with us. I am also very happy and proud that our team won. Now I want to do even better if we reach the nationals.”
Ms Poddar, Head of Computer Science, summed up the day by saying: "BIMA Digital Day has opened our students’ eyes to the limitless possibilities in the digital and creative sectors. We’re incredibly grateful to TPXimpact, Microsoft, and Burberry for inspiring the next generation of innovators."
BIMA Digital Day has sparked excitement among students about the possibilities of a digital future. Many left the event feeling motivated to explore careers in technology, sustainability and design. With such initiatives, Ruislip High School continues to empower its students to become forward-thinking problem solvers, ready to make an impact in the modern world.
