Above & Beyond Month: Year 10 Trip Day
On Wednesday 10th July, 2024, our Year 10 students enjoyed an unforgettable day of trips, as part of Above & Beyond Month. Four exciting trips were organised, each offering unique opportunities for enrichment.
The first group visited Bletchley Park, where they delved into the fascinating world of World War II codebreakers. Students explored the historic site, gaining insights into the critical role cryptography played in the war. They were captivated by stories of the brilliant minds who worked tirelessly to crack enemy codes, a testament to the power of teamwork and innovation.
Another group travelled to The Globe Theatre for a day immersed in Shakespearean drama. The students enjoyed a comprehensive tour of the iconic theatre, followed by an engaging museum visit. The highlight of the trip was a matinee performance of Taming of the Shrew, which brought the timeless comedy to life - even if it was in a slightly weird and wacky manner.
The GCSE Media Studies students embarked on a photography adventure on the Southbank and to the graffiti tunnel, found on Leake Street. They captured excellent images for their NEA production, ensuring their projects on creating a marketing package for a crime film, will have an authentic edge. Their day began with a photography scavenger hunt, which tested their ability to capture a narrative in an image, using lighting, camera angles and positioning. The winners of the hunt (taking the prize of bragging rights and a mini cupcake) were Harrison, Kian, Nadine, Kiya, Freya and Layla.
Lastly, a group of thrill-seekers scaled the O2, enjoying breathtaking views of London from above. This exhilarating experience encouraged teamwork and bravery, leaving everyone with a sense of accomplishment. Ms Lucas, Head of Year 10 and trip leader, commented on how some members of the group were slightly apprehensive about the height of the climb, so felt an extra sense of achievement on conquering their fears to reach the top.
Nadine, who attended the Photography Trip, told us: “It was such a great day! The trip gave us the opportunity to explore a part of London and challenged us to get creative. I think the day was really valuable.”
Ms Hide, Director of Science, who attended The Globe trip said: “Our students were fantastic on the day. Giving them the chance to visit The Globe was great - the tour and the museum were fascinating and the students gained lots from their visit.”
Overall, Year 10 Trip Day was a resounding success, providing our students with valuable experiences that extended beyond the classroom. Thank you to all of the staff who supported the trips.
