The LRC
‘The Zephaniah Learning Resource Centre’ at Ruislip High School
The LRC is the hub of the school, an open-plan library situated upstairs in the central part of the school. The LRC is open to students daily and is managed by Mrs Austen, the LRC Manager.
The LRC is a large, modern space, which was recently renovated and decorated in the school colours and stocks a vast collection of fiction and non-fiction books. Mrs Austen regularly orders new book titles to ensure the LRC stays up to date with the current reads and students also have the opportunity of requesting books.
The main goal of the LRC is to provide a safe and welcoming environment; somewhere students are able to sit comfortably, unwind and silently read during break and lunch, to allow some escapism from the normal school day.
The LRC also has a custom-made book vending machine, which stocks lots of current fiction and non-fiction titles and is incredibly popular amongst students and staff. There are several opportunities for students to win special gold coins throughout the school year, which are presented in assemblies. This allows students to choose a book from the machine to keep or, once read, exchange for a different book from the donated section, meaning students never have to buy a book again!
