Entry Requirements

Ruislip High School Sixth Form Entry Requirements 2016-2017

All students must achieve at least five A*- C GCSE grades to be able to study at Ruislip High School Sixth Form. In most subjects, there are further requirements as detailed below.

D grades will not be considered for any subject under any circumstances.

A Level Subject:

Minimum GCSE grades required:

Art + (Textiles)

B in Art or Textiles, a C may be considered if there are places available on the course

Business Studies

Five GCSEs at A*-C, including a grade 5 in English Language

Biology/ Chemistry / Physics 





B in both Core/Additional Science (with a least B grades in both the relevant Biology/Chemistry/Physics modules)

B or above in Triple Science

Grade 5 in Maths (Biology)

Grade 6 in Maths (Chemistry or Physics)

BTEC Science does not progress to A Level Science

BTEC

National Certificate in Sport

Five GCSEs at A* - C (including a grade 4 in Maths and English)

 

BTEC Travel and Tourism

Five GCSEs at A* - C (including a grade 4 in Maths and English)

Computer Science and ICT

Grade 6 in Maths

B in Science

Drama

B in Drama, a C may be considered if there are places on the course. Grade 5 in English Language or English Literature

English Language 

Grade 6 in English Language and English Literature, a grade 5 may be considered if there are places available on the course

English Literature 

Grade 6 in English Language and English Literature, a grade 5 may be considered if there are places available on the course

French

B in French

Geography 

B in Geography, a C may be considered if there are places available on the course

Government and Politics

Grade 5 in English Language and English Literature

History 

B in History, a grade 5 in English Language or English Literature

Maths

Grade 7 in Maths. Students with high 6 grades may be accepted on the course if they can pass a challenging algebra test before the start of the new term 

Media Studies 

Grades 5/5 in English Literature and Language, where a student has not studied English Literature a C grade in another essay based subject may be considered

Psychology 

Grade 5 in English, grade 5 in Maths and a grade C in either Double or Triple Science

Sociology 

Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including a grade 5 in English Language

Spanish

B in Spanish


Art and Textiles

If students have not taken a subject at GCSE but wish to be considered for an A-level in that course, the following applies:

If there are places available on the course, students must hand in a portfolio of work to show their ability and commitment. Their Key Stage 3 results may also be considered.

Drama

Students who have not taken Drama for GCSE may also be considered if they have practical performance experience.

Qualifications other than GCSEs

For BTECs and OCR National Courses the following applies:

A Pass will be counted as the equivalent of a C at GCSE

A Merit will be counted as the equivalent of a B at GCSE

A Distinction will be counted as the equivalent of an A at GCSE

These qualifications can be offered as one of their five A*-C grades by students wishing to study at A-level. 

Double awards can be offered as two of their five A*-C grades by students wishing to study Level 3 BTECs but not for progression onto only A-level courses.
