Enrichment Day: May 2018

Ruislip High School's enrichment day was on Friday 25th May. Some Year 7 students had an early start on Friday with a 6.45am departure time for the Isle of Wight. The remaining Year 7 students attended an exciting trip to Kew Gardens and experienced the newly-restored Victorian Glasshouse. Year 8s were divided into two groups and visited either Hampton Court Palace or Whipsnade Zoo. Year 9 students were involved in a Holocaust Memorial Day.

Year 10 students were visited by the celebrated author Alex Wheatle. The theme of the day was centred on the topic of discrimination. Wheatle, winner of the 2016 Guardian children’s fiction prize for his novel Crongton Knights, discussed the story behind his book. The day included Wheatle speaking to students and running workshops to develop creative writing, followed by group activities analysing the depiction of social class in film.
